Staffing Update

Ron Overton has left Families United Network with immediate effect.  We thank him for his contribution and we can reassure our members, supporters and colleagues that the Board and Staff are continuing to provide the high quality services that our members need.

This week we have been interviewing a high standard of applicants for the Link & Youth Services Coordinator.  We will keep you informed on the progress of this new and exciting project.

If you have any questions then please give the office a call.

Comedy Night in Dunstable

And a FUN time was had by all!

The Comedy Night  3rd October 2013

The Comedians!

The Comedy Night last night was a fantastic event and raised over £1100 for Families United Network.

Organised once again by Julia and Brian Higgins, with support from the FUN office and especially Diane Rhodes, we were treated to a show featuring a number of Brian’s pals and contacts who gave us a great night. Check out the photo. Thanks to all who organised it, to the many members and others who came and to everyone who contributed.

Volunteer for FUN

Volunteering for FUN this summer

We could never run our Summer Holiday Clubs that stretch over the long hot summer holiday period, without the sterling support of our volunteers.

On all our Summer Holiday Club days this summer, a merry band of volunteers have worked tirelessly with our paid staff – Jenni and Jamie – and their contribution is priceless.

At a recent Summer Holiday Club day we spoke to some FUN volunteers. Play Assistant, Rachel (pictured above) told us: “I’ve been working at FUN for eight years now. It’s a brilliant place for me and it’s an amazing place for families. We support children to play on the bouncy castle and use our sensory room..we also help kids play with their siblings and we just have a lot of fun together!”

And Sunya said: “FUN is about spending time with children of lots of different abilities and allowing them to have fun as well as being with their friends. There’s no discrimination… so you can really be yourself here in a very comfortable and friendly environment.”

I’ve been volunteering for a year and it’s been a really good experience. I’m a lot more comfortable with the children now, they know me and I know their names.

My work with FUN will go on my personal statement for uni where I’m studying psychology…my work with children with special needs will really help, especially as I’m thinking about becoming an educational psychologist.”

Why volunteer?

There are plenty of reasons for volunteering for FUN, or any community organisation in your local neighbourhood, for that matter.

Volunteering could assist your university/college application, bolster your CV, impress a new employer at interview or may even help with a research paper for a qualification.

Those are all solid reasons for getting involved, but many of our volunteers spend a lot of their spare time with FUN because they want to make a difference…to  the young people they support, to the parents, and to their local community.

If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch.

Our Youngest Skydiver – Lewis Holmes

Lewis is 16 years old, and brother to Lily Holmes.  Lewis wanted to do a skydive for his sisters favourite place – FUN.

Lewis raised an incredible £250.00 for FUN. Thank you to everyone who sponsored him

Well done Lewis.

What a tri-athlon!

keith and katie Aug 2013

Congratulations to Keith Diaper and Katie Blair

Keith and Katie swam, ran and cycled their way to our offices last Friday 17th August, raising over £2500 in the process, with 50% going to FUN!

They were welcomed with balloons and bunting and a big cheer by a small crowd (!) – they did arrive at 9pm at night after an exhausting but triumphant day.

Well done Keith and Katie – and thank you.

If you would like to follow their example and raise some funds for us, please ring our Fundraising Officer, Cassie Whitworth, on 07880 404329.

Sarah’s Cycle Challenge

On Sunday 30 June Sarah Walker cycled 60K in a Cycle Challenge Race at the Woburn Cycletta raising funds for FUN. Sarah completed the course in 3 hours 16 minutes (with three stops along the way).

Victoria Pendleton started the cycle race and there were over 700 ladies participating in 3 different races. The weather was amazing and the scenery in Woburn and the surrounding villages was beautiful.

Most importantly Sarah  raised £470 for FUN. She might do it again sometime, but only if her legs have recovered!

Down at the farm

Judith and Malcolm Day (Members of FUN) arranged a day for friends and family to come together to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They asked for donations to FUN instead of receiving presents and gifts.

It was a great day out for all that attended, with bouncy castles and entertainer for the children, which gave the adults time to chat, catch up and enjoy the July sunshine.

Judith and Malcolm raised an impressive £387.28.

Well done and thank you.
