 Saturday Club

Saturday Club is a short breaks service designed for young people with more complex or severe learning disabilities who require a higher level of support.
The Club runs fortnightly (term time only) and provides opportunities for young people aged from 9 to 18 years to spend time with their peers; allowing their family to take a break from their usual caring responsibilities.

The young people participate in meaningful activities with the assistance of a one-to-one support worker, to promote independence and social skills.
There are a variety of activities to take part in onsite, as well as trips into the community for swimming, bowling, adventure playground etc.

Each session runs from 10am to 4pm.

Sessions cost just £20 for all Luton families.
For families living outside of Luton sessions cost £90.

Session must be pre-booked and paid for in advance.

Central Bedfordshire Families:

Families United Network have been offering our Saturday Club service to Central Bedfordshire families at a heavily subsidised rate since May 2015 without any funding support from Central Bedfordshire Council for this service.  It is still unclear as to what funding, if any, Families United Network will be receiving from the Council for its services in 2017/18.  Because of this uncertainty, it will no longer be possible to go on offering our Saturday Club service to Central Bedfordshire families at the subsidised rate of £20 beyond March 2017.

To continue to offer the Saturday Club to Central Bedfordshire families from 1st April 2017, FUN will need to charge a sessional fee much nearer to the true cost of running the club.  Because of this increase in cost, the reality is that most families will now only be able to access this service if they have met the Council’s short break eligibility criteria and are having their child’s place funded by the Council.  From the 1st April 2017 families living within Central Bedfordshire will pay £90 per child, per session for the Saturday Club.

Families United Network did not come to this decision easily and we are anxious that as many families as possible are able to get the help that they need to access the club.  If your child has already been assessed as meeting the Council’s short breaks criteria, then we would encourage you to contact your social worker to discuss how your child might be able to access the Saturday Club at the new higher fee.

If your child does not have a social worker, or has not had an assessment for short break services, you will need to contact the Children with Disabilities Team on 0300 300 8314 or email cwd.duty@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk,  to request an assessment.  If your child meets the Council’s eligibility criteria, you can then discuss funding for the Saturday Club with your social worker.
